Billy's bookshop first opened its
doors in 1970 and quickly became a favourite haunt of Christchurch
booklovers.
Stocked mainly with secondhand
books at the start, it attracted those who couldn't find certain old or
out-of-print volumes at the established booksellers. Often Billy's had the
book in stock or knew where to find a copy.
Over the years it has evolved and
its clientele has grown, so that now it stocks the latest books and
magazines, while its secondhand section has continued to attract its
devotees, among them students looking for bargains.
While its stock and the premises
have grown, Billy's Bookshop has retained it reputation as the place that
combines friendliness with efficient service.
